Francis Burt Law Education Programme
The Law Society of Western Australia provides a unique range of interactive and participant focused legal education programs for school and community groups through its community service; The Francis Burt Law Education Programme (FBLEP).
The FBLEP seeks to advance the Western Australian community’s understanding of the law, legal principles and the court system and operates under the basic principle that all people must understand the law and the legal system which affect them in their daily lives.
Housed in the Old Court House Law Museum, the oldest building in the City of Perth, qualified Education Officers present structured legal education programmes which consist of:
- Court Visits (Supreme Court, District Court or Magistrates Court);
- An empty court activity; and
- Scripted trials based on fictional scenarios and historical West Australian cases.
The FBLEP also provides:
- Legal education resources;
- Professional development workshops for teachers;
- The interactive Mock Trials Competition for secondary students;
- The Regional and Remote Schools Loan Box Programme;
- The FBLEP Australian History Curriculum Programme;
- The Youth Civics Leadership Day;
- The Sir Ronald Wilson Lecture; and
- The Lawyer Visits to Schools Network.
