Quality Practice Standard (QPS)

QPS has been developed to improve the quality and competitiveness of legal practices in Western Australia through the development of better relationships with their clients and improved file management and efficiency.

QPS recognises firms that have developed and adhere to documented internal systems and processes. These systems are designed to improve client satisfaction by clearly establishing and refining internal working procedures and avoiding wastage.

QPS law firms are audited each year to ensure that they comply with the QPS Standard. These standards go beyond the standards as set out by state legislation and regulations. Only firms that meet this higher standard are able to use the `Approved Quality Practice' logo on their letterheads and promotional material.

QPS firms are able to better serve their clients by:

  • Adopting modern quality management principles;
  • Focusing on clients' requirements and client care; and
  • Striving for consistency of service for all clients by all at the firm.
  • There are currently 193 firms registered for certification to the Quality Practice Standard; 43 of these have been presented with their Approved Quality Practice certificates. 18 of the 43 firms achieved the 10th anniversary of their accreditation.

    The steps towards obtaining certification are:

  • Register your firm to the Quality Practice Standard;
  • Attend a compulsory seminar;
  • Prepare your practice manual (optional workshop is available to assist firms in complying with all sections of the Standard);
  • Undergo Desktop Audit;
  • Undergo Compliance Audit; and
  • Upon successful compliance audit, receive an Approved Quality Practice certificate and logo.
  • View the current list of legal practices that have accreditation to use the QPS logo.
