A A A

In 2017, the Law Society celebrated 90 years since its founding. On 15 June 1927, about 30 lawyers gathered in the old Supreme Court library in Perth and agreed to form an association for the legal profession in Western Australia.

There were 96 Foundation Members by 3 October 1927, at the Law Society‚Äôs first Annual General Meeting. Over the ensuing years, the Law Society’s membership and scope of activities have grown exponentially. The Law Society continues to enhance the legal profession through its position as a respected leader and contributor on law reform, access to justice and the rule of law.

Celebrating 90 Years of the Law Society of Western Australia¬†chronicles some of the key events and personalities that have influenced the development of the Law Society and the WA legal profession. The book examines the Law Society’s focus on serving the community, its longstanding commitment to providing legal assistance to vulnerable individuals, and its advocacy and law reform accomplishments. The book is authored by professional historian Dr Catherine May, with a foreword by the Hon Wayne Martin AC, Chief Justice of Western Australia.
