Belmont Local Court in New South Wales established the Law Week Clued up Kids Competition in 2009. In 2014 and 2015, the Francis Burt Law Education Programme worked with the New South Wales coordinator for the Western Australian competition.
In 2016, the Programme established a separate Western Australian Law Week competition named the Cluedunnit Kids Competition
The Cluedunnit Kids Competition provides year 6 (and 5/6 composite) student teams with an opportunity to “investigate” a criminal offence with the goal of identifying the offender. Teams then submit their findings in electronic or written form to a panel of experts from the legal profession and compete against other student teams from schools across Western Australia.
The educational benefits of this project spans all the key learning areas, as children will be learning to develop research, analytical and creative skills; teamwork; argumentative skills in line with NAPLAN; and meet cross-curricula requirements for the Western Australian Curriculum.
The Cluedunnit Kids Competition is particularly relevant to Year 5 and Year 6 Western Australian Curriculum Civics and Citizenship programme.
