A practical guide to changes to the laws governing incorporated associations

The laws governing incorporated associations in Western Australia are set to change.  The Associations Incorporation Act 2015 (WA) is likely to commence on 1 July 2016 and will:

  • repeal and replace the current Associations Incorporation Act 1987 (WA)
  • make provision for corporate governance, financial accountability and matters relating to rules and membership of incorporated associations
  • impose specific eligibility requirements on members of the management committee of an incorporated association

All existing associations will have a transition period of three years to review and update the rules of their association to ensure compliance with these new laws.

Elizabeth Tylich will provide an overview of the changes, and will assess the practical impact of the changes on the day to day management and governance of incorporated associations in Western Australia.
