This session presented by Dr. Adrian McCullagh Ph.D. (IT Sec) LL.B.(Hons) B. App. Sc. (Computing), will cover Blockchain and Security Issues.
As discussed in the first presentation of the Digital Law Series (‘Digital Assets Legal Classifications & Emerging Legal Issues’), a blockchain creates an immutable record of information which is open to anyone who has legal access to its contents. This can create some interesting legal issues concerning privacy. For example, the GDPR allows individuals to have the right to be forgotten. This obligates a data collector to remove any PII from the data repository, but how can this be achieved when immutability of stored date is involved? The presentation will discuss how blockchains and data privacy can sit with each other.
