Topics covered include:

Writing for Government

James Fletcher’s highly interactive and engaging session will cover key concepts in Government writing, including: how to avoid the pitfalls when writing for Government; and how to effectively communicate with senior Government audiences (e.g. senior executives, Ministers and senior decision makers). The session will also cover ‘high impact’ writing and effectively scoping work in order to meet and exceed expectations.

Best practice techniques for peak performance: managing stress, building resilience and maintaining well-being.

James Harris

Special Counsel, HHG Legal Group

Author Profiles

James Harris

James’ primary role is father to the adorable and energetic Saxon (4) and Leo (3). Alongside his role as father, James has spent the past ten years advising local governments throughout Western Australia, as well as the Commonwealth Government and private business. Having previously advised local governments in private practice, James joined the City of Canning in the wake of The Inquiry into the City of Canning and served for six years as its Principal Legal Counsel. Working as an in-house lawyer at one of Western Australia’s largest local governments afforded James with a comprehensive and truly unique understanding of the local government sector’s day-to-day operations, strategic interests, and legal needs. James recently joined HHG Legal Group’s local government team and draws on his in-house experience to advise his local government clients and provide each with practical, commercial and ethical solutions. James aims to extend the benefits of in-house counsel to smaller and regional local governments through offering ‘in-house’ retainers. Cognisant of the risk of ‘burnout’ faced by in-house counsel (who often practice solo), James offers ‘relief cover’ to local governments so their in-house counsel can take leave without being swamped with a backlog of work upon returning.
