Claims arising from domestic violence make up a significant portion of all claims submitted. This seminar will outline common mistakes made and provide tips to ensure your client’s application can be progressed more efficiently. In addition, the Assessors will provide commentary on various sections of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Act 2003 with an emphasis on their application to claims arising from domestic violence. These include section 9 (extension of time);  section 17 (alleged offences); section 36 (no award if compensation likely to benefit the offender); section 38 (no award if applicant did not assist investigators); section 39 (applicant engaged in criminal conduct) and section 41 (behaviour of applicant to be considered).
