As the frequency and complexity of cyber-attacks in Australia increases, the legal profession, as a key part of the multi-disciplinary response, must rapidly school itself on this emerging discipline. Bec Smith will discuss:

  • Arriving at technical answers to legal questions;
  • The value of a forensic investigation (and perils of forgoing one); and,
  • What a cyber responder wants lawyers to know about cyber-attacks.

Bec is the Director of Digital Forensics and Incident Response for Slipstream Cyber, a WA-based cyber security company actively defending clients across Australia and abroad.

Bec has a wealth of investigative experience gained from 20 years in government and the private sector. She has led the investigation of hundreds of cyber-attacks and has extensive experience working with legal teams, insurers, brokers, and IT service providers in helping small businesses through to large ASX listed companies manage and recover from cyber-attacks.
