Elder abuse is a significant issue and yet exploitative or abusive conduct often takes place within the family – whether it is inheritance impatience leading to financial abuse, neglect, or the improper control of decision making. Lawyers who advise families must bear in mind the particular professional, legal and ethical obligations when taking instructions from or on behalf of older people. An accredited family law specialist, the Law Complaints Officer, family law academic and former State Administrative Tribunal Member, and other experienced voices, discuss current issues relating to elder abuse in the context of families.
