Australia is a pluralistic, democratic society in which civil society has a significant role to play in shaping policies and advocating law reform. Citizens are of all faiths and none; they have a variety of comprehensive world views.
Members of the legal profession have their ethical obligations to their clients and to the court. They also as a profession have a civic responsibility to assist civil society and to advocate with government for laws which respect human rights and enhance the common good. This responsibility must be discharged ethically.
This seminar is thought provoking and will challenge legal practitioners to think about their duties beyond that of their duties to their clients or the court.
