Join Industrial Relations Minister Bill Johnston to hear about significant amendments to Work Health and Safety Laws that are coming to Western Australia.
Once the Work Health and Safety Bill 2019 is passed, workplace safety in WA will come under a single Act that covers all WA workplaces. Industrial manslaughter offences will also form part of the law, including a maximum penalty of 20 years of imprisonment for an individual and a $10 million fine for a body corporate.
The Law captures modern employment relationships, such as subcontractors or casual workers, not just the classic employer/employee relationship, and will harmonise WA with other States and Territories.
On 21 October 2020 the Work Health and Safety Bill 2019 passed the Upper House with amendments and it is anticipated the Bill will receive royal assent soon after consideration of amendments by the Legislative Assembly on 3 November 2020, and be operational once Regulations are made in 2021.
