About the event

Lifeline WA’s mission is to prevent suicide, support people in crisis and create equal opportunities for emotional wellbeing.  The Law Society is partnering with Lifeline WA to offer this one day session on Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace to the legal profession*.

The Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace Session Objectives are:

  • To provide practical knowledge and skills for line managers to respond appropriately to a staff member who may be experiencing a health and wellbeing problem.
  • To speak openly and directly to the prevalence of mental ill health and thoughts of suicide and seek to reduce barriers to getting help early.

Session topics

  • Define mental illness, mental ill-health and mental illness
  • Explore the economic impact of mental illness in the workplace
  • Understand workplace stress
  • Understand the importance of psychological health and safety within workplace culture
  • Recognise the signs
  • Plan a conversation
  • Respond appropriately to mental health concerns in the workplace
  • Explore some considerations and your role in supporting a return to work plan

Facilitator: Laura Fitzgerald

Laura Fitzgerald Senior Trainor at Lifeline WA has over 7 years’ experience working in the human services sector. Laura has provided counselling to clients experiencing issues such as relationship breakdown, domestic and family violence and mental ill-health. Laura is a nationally accredited mediator and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. She has spent the past 8 years mediating parenting, property and workplace disputes. In addition to qualifications in psychology and counselling, Laura has a Bachelor of Commerce and started her career in the banking, logistics and property development sectors.
