Rebecca Lee has been declared elected as the Law Society of Western Australia’s President for 2022. Ms Lee is the Law Society’s current Senior Vice President. Believing in ‘lift as you climb’, Rebecca has served three years as a Vice-President, including two as Treasurer of the Law Society; two years as a Councillor; one year on WABA’s Council, three years on the Legal Practice Board of WA; as a Past President of Australian Women Lawyers and WLWA; and for three years as editor of the Law Society’s flagship journal Brief. In 2011, Rebecca attended the Harvard Negotiation Institute, and in 2016 undertook Leadership WA’s Signature Leadership Program.

Rebecca Lee is a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers. As counsel, she acts in areas as diverse as construction, taxation, employment law and wills and estates. She holds a BSc (pure mathematics), LLB and LLM from UWA. Admitted in 1994, Rebecca moved to the Bar in 2004, winning the inaugural Chief Justice’s Prize, WABA’s Bar Readers’ Course. In March 2016, she was Senior Woman Lawyer of the Year (WLWA).

Ms Lee said, “I am truly honoured to be the President of the Law Society for 2022. It has been a privilege to serve as Senior Vice President in 2021. I look forward to continuing to assist in the implementation of the important work of the Society.”

“I am also looking forward to working with all my colleagues on Council. Next year represents an opportunity to ensure that the legal profession continues to be represented and supported during the coming period of fundamental change, as the new Legal Profession Uniform Law is introduced. The Law Society will continue to support its members through these changes and provide a strong clear voice for the legal profession.”

Law Society President Jocelyne Boujos said, “I congratulate Rebecca on her election unopposed as President of the Society in 2022. Rebecca has been an outstanding contributor to Council for many years, and a wonderfully supportive colleague on Executive. I look forward to working with Rebecca and the newly constituted Council and Executive in 2022 as Immediate Past President.”
