March’s President Report – Law Summer School
I started my monthly reports on the rule of law, the theme for the Law Society’s Law Summer School in February in celebration of the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta. As this document is the gift that keeps on giving in our approach to law and rights through to this day, it is in this vein that I shall continue.
The concept of the rule of law involves the application of the law to everyone. As I mentioned in my last report, as lawyers, we have a role not only in promoting and protecting the rule of law but also in having an eye to what those laws are. This means that as a legal profession, which is skilled and trained in advocacy, we should have regard for how laws can impact vulnerable persons and those without a voice in our society and legal systems
