The Law Society of Western Australia’s Old Court House Law Museum Awarded Community Heritage Grant

Friday, 9 November 2018

The Law Society of Western Australia is delighted to announce that its Old Court House Law Museum, which is part of its Education and Community Services programme, has been awarded a $4,500 federal Community Heritage Grant. The grant, awarded at the National Library of Australia in Canberra on 30 October 2018, will allow the Museum to employ an external consultant to undertake a Significance Assessment of its collection.

The grant, which identifies the Museum as possessing a collection of national significance, will enable the Museum to undertake important tasks related to the management of its collection and acquire much needed funds to progress vital conservation and preservation work.

The Old Court House Law Museum is one of only a handful of law museums in the world. Located in the City of Perth’s oldest building, constructed in 1836, the Museum preserves the history of the law and legal profession in Western Australia and promotes an understanding of the law in the Western Australian community.

The Law Society is calling on the McGowan Government to reverse education funding cuts of more than $110,000 which will have a negative impact on the Law Society’s Education and Community Services. To support the campaign, sign a petition organised by the Political and Legal Educators Association of WA, contact your Member of Parliament to voice your concerns and share your views on social media using #MockTrialsForever, #LawEducationMatters and #MuseumsMatter.
