Law Society members are invited to express their interest in up to three committees.

LPB Practitioner ID
This is provided to you by the Legal Practice Board and is required for you to obtain CPD points. Under the Legal Profession Uniform Law, having come into effect 1 July 2022, Committee work by Solicitors (Rule 8.1.4) for two hours of work gives 1 point with a maximum of 3 points per CPD year provided they regularly attend meetings, and Barristers (6A(d)) for 1 hour committee work gives 1 point with no maximum per year provided they regularly attend meetings.

The majority of the committees meet every two months. Some committees meet more frequently if their workload requires it. It is expected that you attend the majority of committee meetings and respond to communications from Law Society staff regarding committee business. The functions of the committees include:
- Identify, develop and draft legal and policy responses within the scope of the committee's Terms of Reference.
- Contribute to the development, drafting and review of Law Society submissions
- Assist with identifying relevant topics for Continuing Professional Development seminars and presenting them
- Participate in Law Society working groups if required
- Identify content and draft articles for Brief magazine
Each committee has Terms of Reference which set out the objects, membership requirements and functions of the committee. You may express your interest in up to three committees. Committee selection is highly competitive and you may not be appointed to your preferred committees.

Committee Eligibility
Indigenous Legal Issues Committee
The Indigenous Legal Issues Committee maintains a representation of at least 50% Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.
Joint Law Society / Women Lawyers Committee
The Joint Law Society/Women Lawyers Committee consists of:
(i) a minimum of three Law Society members appointed by the Council including one representative of the Law Society’s Young Lawyers Committee and the Law Society’s representative on the Law Council of Australia’s Equal Opportunity Committee; and
(ii) at least three representatives of Women Lawyers as ex officio members with full voting rights.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Committee
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Committee comprises the following representatives:
(i) one representative of the Council (ex officio);
(ii) one representative of the Young Lawyers Committee;
(iii) one country representative;
(iv) one representative of the Corporate Law Association of Perth firms;
(v) one representative from the Western Australian Bar Association;
(vi) one representative from a sole/small firm;
(vii) one representative from the Legal Practice Board; and
(viii) one representative from the Legal Profession Complaints Committee.
(ix) two other representative members as determined by the Committee.
The Committee may also, in addition to the eight members, invite observers and ex-officio members onto the Committee.
Young Lawyers Committee
The Young Lawyers Committee will consist of a maximum of nineteen (19) Law Society members appointed by the Council. A Law Society member eligible for membership of the Committee will be:
(i) admitted as a legal practitioner for a period of less than 5 years; or
(ii) admitted as a legal practitioner and under the age of 35 years; or
(iii) a law graduate not admitted to practice and undertaking a period of approved training with a view to being admitted to practice; or
(iv) a law student at a university in Western Australia.
